The latest Edition of the Nile Newsletter is now available for download, along with a special report following the success of Evelyn Oyungrwoth, who studied at Ocoko Vocational Centre.
Since our last update in Summer 2010 development work has progressed steadily, with school buildings close to completion. This Summer, 20 students were undergoing training at the Vocational Centre, studying aspects of building, carpentry, hairdressing or tailoring.
This update features an additional report from Uganda, following the success of tailoring student Evelyn Oyungrwoth. Evelyn previously attended Ocoko Centre and is now using income gained through use of her tailoring skills to pay for her to complete her secondary education.
Fund raising efforts continue with the appeal for donations in order to supply school fees, uniforms, books and meals for the students. Following last Winter’s appeal, 20 water containers and a number of books have been purchased for the Centre. The water containers all carry a message detailing the support from the Vocational Centre, showing that contributions help the community as a whole, and not just on an educational level. Handmade knitted toys were also shipped out to children in Lubanya and Buwenda, many of which have never owned a toy before and were delighted to receive their gifts.
